Spencer & Murphy Booksellers (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use this website or buy from us, why we collect it, and how we look after it. We keep this deliberately simple, because we collect as little as possible.

What we collect, and why
We only collect the information we need to fulfil your order and to meet our legal obligations. Specifically:
- Your name, delivery address, email and phone number — so we can pack, send and track your order, and contact you about it.
- Order and purchase details — the items, prices and dates of your purchases, which we are required to keep for tax and accounting compliance under Australian law.
- Book Club account details (if you choose to register) — your username and email, so you can log in.
In short: the information this website records exists for two reasons only — tax compliance and shipping. We do not collect data for marketing profiles, advertising, or resale.
Payments — we never see your card details
Online payments are processed entirely through our bank’s own secure, hosted payment portal. When you pay, your card details are entered directly on the bank’s secure page — they are never seen, handled, or stored by this website. This keeps your card data within the bank’s PCI‑DSS–compliant environment, which is the most secure place for it.
No analytics, no tracking
We do not use Google Analytics or any third‑party analytics, advertising, or tracking tools. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
The only third parties we share with
- Our bank / payment provider — to securely process your payment (as above).
- Australia Post — we provide your name and delivery address solely so your order can be shipped and tracked.
That is the complete list. We do not use any other third‑party services to gather or process your personal information.
Cookies
We use only the essential cookies needed for the website to work — for example, to remember the contents of your shopping cart and to keep you logged in to your Book Club account. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
How long we keep it
We retain order and transaction records for as long as required by Australian taxation law (generally five years), after which they are securely disposed of. Book Club accounts are kept until you ask us to close them.
Your rights
You may ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you (subject to records we must keep for tax purposes). Just email hello@spencerandmurphybooksellers.com.au and we’ll help.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and protected by a web application firewall. Payments are handled by the bank’s secure portal, so sensitive card data never reaches our systems.
