This book presents forty of the world's most famous sailing ships, with original paintings by the celebrated Dutch artist Cornelis de Vries. De Vries' ship portraits are exquisitely detailed; whenever possible, he works form archive collections of original shipbuilder's designs. Most of the ships included here were built between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, when these ships played a vitally important part in the lives of nations and men. The text provides details on each ship.
